On the hunt: where do phytoplankton get their food in the nutrient-starved Gulf?

A new $2.3 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) will help a cross-disciplinary team of scientists figure it out. The team will attempt to determine if there is an overlooked nutrient source along the coastal margins. The three-year project, led by Angie Knapp from Florida State University, includes Kristen Buck and Tim Conway at the Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app College of Marine Science.

Heather Judkins, associate professor of integrative biology on the Ôƶ¥¶Ä³¡app St. Petersburg campus, will continue her studies of cephalopods, such as octopus and squid, as part of a team of scientists aboard the R/V Point Sur for a 12-day research cruise around the Gulf of Mexico.
